The Insides of a Suitcase & Stone Spray

My main focus this week is to get my card suitcase completely finished. I still have to do a little bit, but for the most part, it's complete. The idea was to have the letters "C-A-R-D-S" on each little flag, but I still have yet to get the letters on. 

First, I printed out an outline of a diamond and cut it out. (I'll have the actual size diamond I used at the bottom of this post.)

I laid the diamond on top of the fabric and pinned it. 

Then (obviously) you cut the fabric according to the shape. 

I folded the diamonds in half, so that they became double triangles and ironed them with starch. (I tried sewing them, but my machine decided to freak out on me:( 

Next, I ran natural Jute string through the tops of the triangles and pinned the fabric to the jute string on the backside. 

Ta-Da! (after clothes-pinning it!)

I still have yet to do the letters, but those will be very soon!

Krylon Make it Stone Spray!

So cool! I was kind of doubting that it would be the texture it said it would be, but it did exactly as it said it would. 

Unfortunately, I'll need to give it a second coating because a little bit of the brown is showing through, but I am very pleased with the results...:)

Finishing Up is Hard to Do!

A couple weeks ago, I made yet another journey to the thrift store to see what bargains I could find. I was determined to find a vintage suitcase that guests could put their cards in. I'm a tad bit over everyone having a birdcage for cards...so I knew it was the perfect plan. Unfortunately, there are NO cheap vintage suitcases in good condition. So, I found this suitcase at a local thrift store for a WHOPPING $2!!

I decided that I could paint it the desired color instead of busting my butt trying to find the perfect suitcase. 

Of course, by the picture, you can see that mint green is the preferred color. 

The inside is a light butter yellow that will coordinate nicely with the green! :)

I taped up the vintage metal strip on top of the suitcase with some tape and went at it.

Veil Shopping!

Yesterday, my maid of honor, Rachel, took me to go look at veils. I have had the dress for a few months now, and just needed a headpiece. Before I went, I thought I knew what I wanted, but it turns out I was wrong! I was originally going to look for a long veil, and was almost set against any kind of netting!  It turns out that I was IN LOVE with this style! 

Isn't it beautiful?

I am thinking of not buying a veil, but having my aunt make me one! Since the one in the pictures is $240.00, I think I'll try my hardest NOT to buy THAT certain veil, but at least I know what I love now. (PS. The pictures definitely don't do the veil justice.) 

A Heart of Moss

I am trying to decide if I should wait to post pictures until I have projects finished, or if I should just keep an account of how things are coming. I'm thinking the latter.

I love going to the thrift store to see if there are any ugly things to be made beautiful.
The thing I've noticed is people look for things that have immediate gratification. For instance, a week or two ago I found a shelf that looked like it would be quite handy to hang jewelry on. The problem was, it had a nasty dirty blue color with spots of white on it!
Incredibly ugly.
I took it home and painted it.
Now, it is one of my most prized pieces. :)
The reason no one had bought the shelf, was because all people saw was the ugly blue color.

The other day, I bought a wooden heart with a big name on the front. I forgot to take a picture of the front until after I covered it with moss, but I have a picture of the back.

Next I took some Goop craft glue and pieced preserved moss onto the heart a bit at a time.

I'm going to let the glue dry overnight, and will attempt my hand at making some burlap ribbons to put on the heart...

Getting Started...

I love refurnishing old things. 
So that's pretty much what these wedding decorations are based on!
I wanted to get all the outside work (like spray painting) done before winter, so I got going!
Except it's so hot. Seriously. Let's see some rain...


My first project that I started about two weeks ago was refinishing old frames. The frames will be used on my reception tables, either to number the tables or just to write quotes or sweet nothings on.


I get all my frames from thrift stores (preferably with some cardbord in the back) for 25 cents to a dollar!

I bought some Krylon crackle paint at Hobby Lobby for $4 each (you need an undercoat and the crackle coat).

Hobby Lobby has an online coupon ( For the coupon click here ) that you can print off. It's 40% off of one regular item, per person, per day. The tricky part is you can only use one per day, but there are TWO cans of paint. I have a simple solution. Print out two, bring someone with you, and pay separately. Yea. 


This project is pretty much self explanatory, but I'll run you through it anyways. :)


First, take the glass, cardboard or backing off of the frame. 

Then, go outside and spray the first coat of spray paint on the frames. The directions on the cans are pretty clear about what to do. 

Wait 1-3 hours, then put the crackle coat on top of it. I liked to use a lot of the top coat because the more paint there is, the bigger the crackle:)

(Tip: Wear a mask. The fumes are really strong.)

Next, take some Krylon Chalk board paint and spray it on the cardboard that came with the frame and spray it. Again, use a mask. 

Once everything has dried, secure the cardboard back in the frame! Draw away!

(Another tip: Since this is not real chalkboard, it is best to use a soft chalk, like sidewalk chalk, instead of the regular chalkboard kind.)
